Hi guys! I tried doing this on Tumblr but didn't get a lot of support so I thought I'd try it here. ^^ As some of you may know, I'm a design student in Wellington. And for my Independent Project (which is like our thesis), I've decided to focus on the Clasico rivalry. The title of the project is Los Galacticos, mostly because I'm likening the players to actual constellations in the sky.

What I plan to do is to field an All-Star XI (+ manager) from both clubs and pit them against each other (like I'm gonna have the audience vote on who they think will/want to win.) I have an idea on what to do with the Madrid side but I'm not very familiar of Barca's past players so I thought I'd ask help from you guys (especially for the cules out there) for recommendations! :) So far, I've got Messi (ofc), Xavi, Ronaldinho and Puyi, with Pep as the manager... throw Cruyff in there, maybe? idk. I'd appreciate your help on this project! :D

Hello all, just to let you know, there's a Manchester City FC livejournal community, if any of you are interested in talking about the club and its players :) The stupid mod (cough) let the community die for about a season, but we're trying to relaunch it for the next season! We have post-match reactions posts, some really good comment fic-a-thons, and we like to cry over injuries and conceding from set-pieces. If that sounds like your kind of thing, please join us at [livejournal.com profile] mcfcloving!

(Also, that community houses the 3 part Manchester City FC primer, but it's still being updated because, you know, stupid mod)

Thank you for your time! Here, have some excitable Spanish bbs! :D

Hello, lovelies!

My name's Faith, and I used to be a frequent contributor to this comm before Tumblr got it's grubby claws in me after WC2010. I was all about Die Mannschaft, and that still holds true with what I bring you tonight. ;)

I had made a Mannschaft mix after EURO 2008, and according to my "research" (i.e updating the mixes' page on my journal for resurrection reposting after yesterday's victory), it never made it over here when I was picspamming and commenting and generally drooling over Michael Ballack, Torsten Frings, Schweini, Poldi, and all those beautiful boys back in the day.

I MUST RIGHT THIS WRONG.

[listen via 8tracks] [original post on LJ w/download link]

There's also a Micha/Torsti mix if anyone is interested in a mix for players who are both retired and have no influence on our current German bbs.

Thanks for letting me be a Mannschaft/ONTD_F hipster. If you remember me, drop a line and say hi! I was "crediniaeth" before I did a cut-off name change and lost everything... including all the posts I made here. :( I complain all the time that I miss this comm (and continue to use nicknames garnered from here that no one recognizes), so I should probably do something about that, eh? ;)

HELLO EVERYBODY!
LONG TIME, NO VISIT!

Wow it´s been a long time since I´ve been in here ... feels like we need a revival ready for the WORLD CUP and what better way to do it than with a bit of community cooperation and participation, because a World Cup is nothing without ...

And anyone who has ever done a Panini sticker album before knows, you need lots of stickers but that also means that you end up with lots of duplicates ... which is where this post is going to come in!

Leave a comment with a list of either the stickers you have to swap, or the stickers you need and other members can reply with the stickers they need/have ... then you can take it to the DMs (or twitter, as most of us are there too!) to trade contact info to get your stickers on their way worldwide XD

HAPPY STICKERING!

The former Portuguese international joins the Ewood Park club on a free transfer following his release from Braga at the end of last season, signing a two-year-deal.

~

So very happy that Nuno gets to continue playing. I have loved him forever. My favorite currently playing footballer and only 2nd to Eusebio for favorite of all time.

If you want to know more about him, check my blog post out I wrote last year when he was released from Benfica.

oh, and he's a fine, fine human being.

He's so well spoken!

I will forever until my dying day stan this man. I'm also 99% sure almost 50% of my kit collection feature his name and number. Woops.

HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY, NUNO! (His birthday is 5 July)

Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton was suspended for 12 matches by the FA today after he was found guilty of two counts of violent conduct, according to BBC Sport.

The issue stemmed from the dramatic final day of the Premier League season in a match between QPR and Manchester City.

Since we're now in transfer season, players are coming and going and usually the medical tests are a great opportunity to see them in all their "glory" or to discover hotties who are quite shy in the field.

I'm gonna show you the medicals in Athletic, can you show me yours? :p

The Women's World Cup!!!

(Play this as you read the rest of the post for maximum pumping-up effect.)

When is the Women's World Cup?

It starts bright and early TOMORROW, June 26th, at 9AM EST with France v. Nigeria, followed by Germany v. Canada at 12!

There's a schedule of all the group stage matches here, which you can adjust for your time zone!

How can I watch the Women's World Cup?

WWC '11 is getting an unprecedented amount of broadcast coverage! Here's as much info as I could find:

USA:  All matches on either ESPN or ESPN2 as well as ESPN3.com, ESPN Mobile TV, and Univision

CANADA:
CBC and Rogers Sportsnet will be broadcasting most matches, with Telelatino also broadcasting

GERMANY: ARD and ZDF will broadcast all matches.

ENGLAND: England's group matches and any subsequent England matches will be live on BBC Red Button and the BBC Sport website. The final will be broadcast live on BBC3.

AUSTRALIA: SBS and theworldgame.sbs.com.au.

EUROPE: Eurosport and the European Broadcast Union have the rights to the WWC.

THE MIDDLE EAST/NORTH AFRICA: Al-Jazeera has broadcast rights.

Unfortunately I can't find any more information than that. If you can find info for Asia/South America or more specific details for different countries in Europe/Middle East/North Africa please comment!

Where can I find info on the teams in the Women's World Cup?

Lots of places! A good place to start is Our Game Magazine's nation-by-nation overview.

For more details, check out All White Kit, where all of the pre-tournament coverage has been rounded up over the past few days.

If you really want to be a know-it-all, get yourself a copy of All White Kit and the Equalizer's Complete Guide to the 2011 WWC.

I hope you're all as excited as I am right now because it's gonna be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

To thank you for your time, here's a bit of vintage WWC advertising:

Now I turn the questions over to you, _fb:
Who are you rooting for? Who do you think will win? Which matches are going to be the most exciting? Did you have a Women's World Cup Barbie and if so why weren't we childhood friends??

David Beckham has been given permission to play in Gary Neville’s testimonial at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The midfielder was delighted to be allowed to take part in the fixture where he will play alongside fellow United legends Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

Beckham said: 'I think Bruce (Arena, LA Galaxy coach) knows how important it is for Gary. It’s more important than anything for me to be there for Gary.'

Arena has allowed Beckham, 36, to miss out on one of the club’s upcoming fixtures in order to make the appearance after admitting he was already set for a break. 'We’d be resting David in one of the games next week anyway.'

Along with Neville, former England captain Beckham formed the right hand side of a Manchester United side that won the treble in 1999. The news will be a boost for Neville, who also enjoyed a successful partnership with Beckham for England. Earlier in the week Neville said: 'I am in contact with David. It is looking positive but we still have a couple of things to sort out.'

The date of the testimonial - just four days before United's Champions League final clash with Barcelona at Wembley - has been criticised in some quarters but Neville is adamant that the timing is right. 'Hopefully it will be an enjoyable game for the fans and, four days before Wembley, it will be like a celebration and send-off for the lads who have done so well this season.'

Although Neville is due to begin work as a Sky Sports pundit, the 36-year-old clearly has no intention of stepping back from his barely concealed love of all things United. 'I am a fan. I have always been a fan,' he said. 'I wanted to do something for the fans and have said that publicly for the last 15 years.

'This is something I know will give me satisfaction and fulfil what I believe to be a thank you, so the fans can go and enjoy it.'

BECKS AND GNEV BACK TOGETHER!!!! I hope Becks brings his wooden spoon ...

OK, I was in two minds whether to honour the "bungsten burner" tag or not as I'm blue as frick, but, eh, whether you're broke or evergreen, eh? So some pics from the game, which Manchester United won 2-1, as good as securing themselves their 19th title (they only need one point from games against Blackburn and Blackpool, if that). And they deserved to win; Chelsea went 1-0 down within 36 seconds, David Luiz clearly having so much fun making cute YouTube videos that he momentarily fell on his arse, and not only that, directed the ball onto Hernandez's path, to allow him to score. Vidic scored some 20 minutes later, meaning Chelsea had a mountain to climb. Chelsea were able to claw one back ala Frankie Lamps, meaning Van der Sar and Cech are still tied on clean sheets and Mr Lampard finally enters double digits for league goals this season, but tbh, that's all I can think of that's positive from a Chelsea perspective. We were lucky not to concede two penalties and in United's last ten minutes they could have netted several. So that's that, really. Well done to Manchester United, deserved.
and if she does, she's getting there slow. )
So that game marks the end of Chelsea's season-less trophy. Gutted like woah, but I'mma direct y'all to something I wrote in an old Chelsea post:
I think anything higher than a top four finish is beyond us, I would happily take third of fourth place right now, especially as the other four teams (Utd/City/Arse/Spuds) don't look to be running out of steam any time soon.

Also, this graph pinpoints when exactly it was that Chelsea lost her composure: the coldest winter )
Second's not *too* shabby considering where we have been at points this season. I'm sad right now, but I'm also fiercely, fiercely proud. After the January transfer window, we lost at home to Liverpool and drew away to Fulham and at that point things were looking so grim that fans of the opposition were all trolololol'ing that Torres may not even get the CL football that he joined Chelsea for. That fear, at least, is non-existent. We've had some good moments this season, not least winning against Manchester United and City, Arsenal and Spurs at home. Our resurgance in recent weeks has been lush, and although I'm sad right now, I'm so proud of Chelseabung <3

Fernando Torres' inability to score for Chelsea has been well-documented and enjoyed by the footballing world, so I thought I'd share a lil' article I "found" chanelling each game in his massive goal drought.

Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

Morace to step down as CanWNT coach
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO )

It's been speculated that this memo was leaked to cast a bad light on the CSA before they vote for governance reform on Saturday. So, for those who are curious this is what the CSA reform is about according to former CMNT captain Jason de Vos:

Change on the horizon for Canadian Soccer
OR IS ITTTT? )

Q&A Canadian soccer governance renewal
Any Ipswich fans? )

It's frustrating, as a Canadian national team supporter, to know that the only thing standing in our way is ourselves and the organization that is supposed to be helping us. Canada has the potential and the means to go further in football and this has gone on long enough, imo. The players, coaches and supporters deserve better.

Lastly, a lot of the exposure on the CSA reform and the Alberta Soccer Association (ASA) debacle should be credited to CanadianSoccerNews.com. Without the writers and editors of the site, this issue would have gone under the radar to the public. They have done a phenomenal job in terms of asking the right questions to the right people.

Tomorrow the vote for CSA reform goes through, follow it on twitter #CSAreform, tweet your support to two delegates who will be there and casting their votes for reform, @jasondevos and @karalang15. More twitter info here.

UPDATE: The CSA unanimously voted for reform in 2012 with all Provincial Presidents gradually out of the BoD by 2015. oooh yeaah \m/

The 2011 Qatar Asian Cup is about take place(!!!), and in celebration/preparation/anticipation/whatever, this is a...

SOCCEROOS 101

To get your attention: Harry Kewell! Tim Cahill! Lucas Neill! (Double-L surnames!?) Handsome men!
This is: the Australian national football team! (totes not obvious, yah?)
The bosses: Football Federation Australia (FFA)
Represent!: Asian Football Confederation
Deck out in: green and gold
Y’all know us as: the Socceroos (as if you couldn’t tell by the very subtle font above)
Flyin’ low without this sponsor: Qantas Airlines (full name: Qantas Socceroos)... which is good because the boys do shittonnes of travelling
Fashion statement: Nike
HBIC Coach: Holger Osieck
HBIC Captain: the dashingly handsome Lucas Neill
In line for FIFA’s throne: (as of 15 December 2010) rank #26
Haters: to the far left
Kangaroos: are totally badass
Koalas: ditto

The Socceroos pre-2006, the move to the AFC, our Asian Cup and World Cup campaigns, the coaches who took us there, our kickass Women’s team (who WON THE 2010 WOMEN’S ASIAN CUP(!!!!!) I might ever-so-subtly add), and the men’s team’s 2011 Asian Cup squad members. All here (with a healthy dose of tl;dr) under the cuts!
Note that I will mostly stick to calling it “soccer", because that’s generallyyyyy what we’re used to calling it in Australia (SOCCERoos, y/y?). We have another sport, Australian Rules football (or AFL (Australian Football League) for short), which is what we refer to as "football" or "footy", so it gets a bit confusing. And for the record, it is NOTHING like the ‘football’ most of you know. AFL is more like a bastardisation of chaotic rugby with a bit more kicking. But then, I’m a biased soccer fan, sooo...

Now, without further ado, obligatory kangaroo invites you in!

(that’s my pet kangaroo, her name is Milly and she is 2 years old*. :’)

*I am joking. We do not generally keep kangaroos as pets in Australia.

And so, we begin...

Road to 2006: Australia’s Qualification And First World Cup Appearance Since 1974 )

Road to 2010: The Socceroos’ Rollercoaster Ride )

2011 AFC Asian Cup: The Next Journey )

The Coaches: The Head Honchos Of The Socceroos )

The Squad: The 2011 Asian Cup Socceroos )

Australia for 2015 AFC Asian Cup )

And so concludes this extremely long-winded Socceroos 101. How will we fare in the 2011 Asian Cup, and eventually, the qualifiers for the 2014 Brazil World Cup? Only time will tell.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Australian national team, our beloved Socceroos.

Dancing John Travolta and Tim Cahill thanks you for your time.
