After its friendly match against Uruguay (1-1), the Dutch national team immediately flew back to Rio de Janeiro before volcanic ash from Patagonia would render the flight impossible. Once there, the Dutch footballers went out for a night on the town.

Photographs published in Brazilian media show that the team - including Dirk Kuyt, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, John Heitinga and Gregory van der Wiel, had a really good time with a number of Brazilian women.

Who's more scouse - Pepe or Dirk?

It's clearly Dirk. He should have got a point for 'the bitters' and a bonus point for namedropping the legend that is Jimmy Corkhill.

Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

Liverpoolfc.tv reported on October 15 that Kuyt would be out for a month with an ankle injury sustained on international duty.

However, the Dutchman has been making a speedy recovery at Melwood.

Hodgson told us: "Dirk Kuyt is making incredible progress. He shouldn't be as far advanced as he is with his ankle but he's looking good. I don't think he'll be fit for the weekend but maybe the weekend after."

Meanwhile, Glen Johnson is a doubt for Sunday's trip to Bolton with a muscle injury which has seen him miss our last three fixtures.

"With Glen Johnson it's one of those things that will be touch and go for the weekend," said Hodgson. "He's making strides but he's not 100 per cent."

In other injury news, Ryan Babel and Fabio Aurelio both featured in a reserve friendly with Huddersfield on Tuesday - though the former was forced off after a knock to the ribs. Hospital scans have since discovered no serious damage.

Hodgson said: "Ryan got a nasty knock in the friendly match with Huddersfield, which is unfortunate. A player landed on him and his knee went into Ryan's ribs. Fortunately nothing is broken or cracked. That's good news but it's still a painful blow.

"It's a question of how quickly the pain subsides and whether he can tolerate it. It's not a major injury but it might take a couple of days.

"Fabio's fine. We wanted to give him some game time because, unfortunately, after the Trabzonspor game he played he missed a lot of football again. The sports science team were building him up and he did well against Napoli when he came on for 20 minutes.

"He played for an hour yesterday, so he's definitely making strides."

Elsewhere, Hodgson confirmed Daniel Agger was still some way short of full fitness.

Dirk is absolutely incredible. To go from being out for the rest of the year, to maybe a month and a half, to possibly going back next weekend? AMAZING. SHAKING/CRYING/ETC. And yes, two posts from me about liverpool in the matter of an hour. Oops.

OKAY. So now we've got this Dallas Court Hearing to worry about, there's a link HERE, and it seems like THE GUARDIAN will also be updating. i'll try to use both. The KOP source uses military time and guardian is the current time in london, for the record :D

9.29pm: More from the Dallas courtroom courtesy of the Dallas Observer (via Jean-Yves Mertenat) ...

Before [Judge] Jordan dismissed the parties till tomorrow morning, first thing, attorney Stephen Fox, repping Hicks and Kop Holdings, told the judge that "our folks are aggressively working out an arrangement with RBS to take care of the debt." Meaning: Hicks and George Gillett would pay the close to $500 million owed and then look for someone other than NESV to buy the team. Jordan said, "I hope those talks continue," but said he needs more time to consider the UK judge's ruling before making a decision concerning yesterday's temporary restraining order. Steve Stodghill, repping Hicks and Gillett, told Unfair Park after the hearing that NESV and the Liverpool board have agreed to hold off on closing till tomorrow morning, around 8 a.m. Dallas time, when Jordan's expected to rule on the TRO. If Jordan lifts the TRO, sale's a done deal. But if Jordan doesn't, says Stodghill, "the ball's in the court of NESV, and they can decide if they want to attempt to close the transaction knowing they're in violation of the TRO. That's a decision they'll have to make."

9.01pm: Was there in Dallas. J. Jordan made it clear that he wanted "this matter resolved" so parties could close on 15th, says Josh Imhoff on Twitter who says he was at the hearing in Dallas which has been adjouned until tomorrow. 15 October has been the red-letter day for Liverpool's ownership for some time although absolutely no one would have predicted that a Texan courthouse was going to decide the future of the club.

8.46pm: There seems to be some confusion over what exactly is going on in the court in Dallas (confusion in this story - never). i'm not sure I can help much other than quote the passage below from the Dallas Observer's blog (courtesy of David Holden) ...

Robert is at the George Allen this very moment, where attorneys representing New England Sports Ventures and Kop Holdings (which is to say, Tom Hicks) are squaring off over who owns Liverpool FC. In light of the UK judge's ruling this morning, which basically tossed yesterday's temporary restraining order, the attorneys (and assorted media) have gathered to see what the judge will decide, since Hicks owes the Royal Bank of Scotland close to $500 million dollars by tomorrow.

Right now, the judge is leaning toward a 7 a.m. hearing Friday to decide whether or not he will lift yesterday's TRO. Court is scheduled to reconvene shortly. Updates forthcoming.

Update at 2:20 p.m.: Judge Jim Jordan has ordered all parties back in his courtroom at 7 a.m. tomorrow for an hour-long hearing, at which point he will decide whether or not to lift the TRO.

20:40 – When asked when a takeover could be completed, Martin Broughton replied:

“Were still in court in Texas trying to get the temporary restraining order overturned.”

He then added “probably some time tomorrow” when asked when the injunction could be overturned.

Roy Hodgson is considering fielding senior stars such as Fernando Torres against Utrecht on Thursday night.

The manager is delighted with how his Spanish striker has progressed over recent games - and believes El Nino is forming a potent understanding with Raul Meireles and Dirk Kuyt.

Now he is pondering playing the trio in our second Europa League encounter later this week.

"It's on my mind to play Torres, Raul Meireles and Dirk Kuyt on Thursday," he said. "I think they're knitting together well.

I think Roy should honestly just start as many of the line up he had Saturday in this match. They NEED to click before the break, I think it'd be a smart move to play as much of the Saturday line up as he can. AND Mods, is there a roy tag that I'm simply missing? If not, I think it's time we got one, tbh.

Roy Hodgson today revealed how Dirk Kuyt could return from injury earlier than expected - either against Sunderland at the weekend or Utrecht next Thursday.

Liverpoolfc.tv reported a fortnight ago that the Dutchman would be out for up to a month with a shoulder injury sustained on international duty.

However, the 30-year-old has made a faster-than-expected recover and is already back in training.

Hodgson said: "Dirk has trained the last couple of days. We're trying to protect him a little bit but he's made a remarkable recovery, so it'll be interesting to see how he progresses on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in relation to Saturday's game and the game next Thursday.

"We thought three to five weeks, so we're at the quick end of the scale."

Kuyt will be desperate to make the trip to Utrecht, the club where his professional career got up and running.

Meanwhile, the only other fitness concern for the Liverpool boss is Fabio Aurelio, who is out with an Achilles problem.

Hodgson added: "With Fabio it's a little more tricky. The sports science people are very anxious they get him 100 per cent right before they throw him back in because they don't want a situation where he's dropping out again. But he's making very good progress and if push came to shove we could use him."

AMAZING. I LOVE KUYT SFM. I hope he's not rushing back into it too quickly, but it really does seem like he's making great progress. YES!

Kuyt injured - forced to hospital

Holland has gotten problems in the European Championship qualifiers.
Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt, 30, has been forced to the hospital - with an injured shoulder.

Holland was a success in the World Cup and went all the way to the final, now riding on the wave of success.
In the first match in the European Championship qualifiers against San Marino, they won with a score of 5-0, after goals by Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dirk Kuyt, also with a hat trick from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

But before the match against Finland tomorrow, they have problems.
Striker Kuyt has injured the shoulder in training and could now be gone for a long time.
According to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, the 30-year-old has been forced to the hospital and is to be x-rayed - and the answer to exactly how serious the injury is going to come soon.

source (in swedish)

update:
It was noted that the 30-year-old will be gone for "several weeks". He thus misses the match against Finland, a number of important matches for Liverpool - and perhaps also the European Championship qualifier against Sweden, which is played in five weeks. - Some ligaments are stretched, if not severed, "said coach Bert Van Marwijk to De Telegraaf. And he is worried. - All of our key players from the World Cup is gone, so now it's up to the other players ... Kuyt is said to be replaced by either Ibrahim Afellay or Jeremain Lens.

yeah, okay, so, fml for real then.

Liverpool have informed Inter Milan that Dirk Kuyt is not for sale.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The Daily Mail says Liverpool have dashed Kuyt's hopes of linking up again with Rafa Benitez by officially telling Inter Milan he is not for sale.
Kuyt claimed Liverpool had received a fax from Inter, leading to claims in Holland that it was a bid.

But it was merely a request to be informed of developments should boss Roy Hodgson consider offers. Kuyt will not force the issue.

Kuyt attracts Inter interest

Agent claims striker is considering switch

Dirk Kuyt's agent has revealed that there is 'concrete interest' from Inter Milan in the Liverpool player, although he has yet to decide whether he would be keen on a reunion with Rafa Benitez.

Benitez left Anfield to take charge at the Giuseppe Meazza over the summer and has been linked with moves for several of his former men, including Kuyt.

The Holland international has seen his stock rise over the past few years and he became a key figure under Benitez after joining the Reds from Feyenoord in 2006.

I hope this post is in compliance with the community's rules. X-posted to [livejournal.com profile] liverpoolreds, but we think this needs to catch on.

My friends and I have this theory. It is not Xabi who Liverpool might be missing, it is, quite simply, a ginger beard. A ginger beard is the little extra we need to win the Premier League, it has voodoo powers, but of a completely legal kind. So we wondered, now that Xabi is gone, who could fill that spot of designated beardman, who could draw the lucky powers from the (apparently) beard-loving football gods?
It can only be one man.

Step up, Dirk Kuyt.
