Sepp Blatter will make way for a successor as FIFA president in four years' time if he is re-elected in June, he has announced.

Blatter is seeking a fourth term as FIFA president and is being challenged by Asian confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hammam.

The 75-year-old told UEFA's Congress in Paris on Tuesday that if he wins he will definitely stand down in 2015, saying: "You know very well that I am a candidate for the next four years as FIFA president but these will be the last four years for which I stand as a candidate."
He added: "Together we have the task of bringing together the adventure we have started.
"We want to ensure a better future for our youth."

The new president will be elected at a Fifa Congress which starts on 31 May.

With Bin Hammam vowing to increase Fifa's decision-making power and spread its considerable wealth, Blatter is facing his first challenge since Issa Hayatou took him on - and lost - in 2002.

Bin Hammam is also currently attending the Congress for European football's governing body, Uefa, as they lobby federation presidents for their vote on 1 June in Zurich.
Uefa members make up more than one quarter of the maximum 208 Fifa voters that Blatter and Bin Hammam will attempt to woo.
The winner needs a two-thirds majority of valid votes cast in the first ballot, or a majority in the second.

Fifa has set an 1 April deadline for other candidates to be nominated by a single member federation.
"We are in extra time," said Blatter, referring to the time left before the election. "Let's wait and see what the outcome will be."

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez ready to risk wrath of Everton with move for Steven Pienaar

Liverpool are ready to risk the wrath of neighbours Everton with a move for influential midfielder Steven Pienaar.

The skilful South African has emerged as one of the best players in the Premier League but his contract runs out in 14 months and Everton are yet to tie him down to a new deal.

Sportsmail revealed in January that Tottenham and Chelsea were interested in the 28-year-old, valued at about £10million.

Now Liverpool have emerged as strong admirers, despite Everton's reluctance to sell to their fiercest rivals. The Anfield club have been encouraged by news of the unresolved contract talks, although Everton are preparing a new offer that would put Pienaar on a par with their top earners at about £50,000 per week.

Pienaar's agent Ivan Modia said: 'Steven's future will be sorted before the World Cup.'

Everton manager David Moyes warned: 'Pienaar is at a club that really suits him and sometimes a player has to decide what is best for him. Everton has been good for Steven. If anybody wanted to leave, they'd be poorer for it.'

Because [livejournal.com profile] angelaalex asked for it. And I like to shove Serbs down your throats. In a kinky way. Thanks to loads of posts on here, most especially [profile] ancient_arch and [profile] crystal_style .

it's too warm to think of a snappy cut title too )

So yesterday, Wikipedia tells me, was Zoran Tosic's birthday. There was much celebrating. I had a Jack Daniels and my boss started a fist fight. And today I bring you ZORAN SPAM!

I will attempt witty commentary, but I will fail... )

And there you have it. My obsession. Like, every photo I have of Zoran is right clicked and saved from [livejournal.com profile] nghhhserbs , so thanks to them. :)

In other news, today is Manchester United v Arsenal. Skysports.com's match preview is here. And here is what Fergie has to say about it.

I promised this to [profile] ancient_arch yesterday and my computer has been messing up. I am about ready to throw it through a window. Plus I'm depressed beyond belief about yesterday. I'm just giving you a friendly warning now, if you try and rub yesterday's result in, I will probably snap. :)

Also, this is more of a "things that cheer me up" spam than a "Manchester United" spam. Well, it's a Manchester United spam. But with lots of Serbs. 'Kay?

this is in no order at all. bite me. )

Hey mods, can we get a 'serbs' tag or something like that, because I have a feeling I'm gonna need one. At the very least an Adem Ljajic tag because I fear I'm gonna be spamming the hell out of him. Oh, that sounds dirty.... I like it!

Under the cut is an interview with Adam Ljajic, translated by Zoran Tosic. *flails* Oh, and pictures of him training at Carrington.

this interview has probably killed me )

Also, this was the 12 o'clock blog on manutd.com yesterday. Yes, you may call me bitter or whatever, but I do agree with everything that's said. Except maybe the part about Rooney's sending off, I do think it was necessary.

Okay, so Liverpool have had a tremendous two weeks. We’ve had a tremendous two decades. )
