• Sir Alex Ferguson 'delighted' by decision

Manchester United have announced that the former England midfielderPaul Scholes has come out of retirement and will play until the end of the season. He will sit on the bench for this afternoon's FA Cup third-round match against Manchester City.
A statement on the club's official website said: "Paul Scholes has rejoined the playing staff at Manchester United for the remainder of the season with immediate effect, after approaching Sir Alex Ferguson to reverse his decision, made at the end of last season, to retire.
"He has gone straight on to the bench for this afternoon's FA Cup third-round tie against Manchester City."
Ferguson, United's manager, said: "It's fantastic that Paul has made this decision. It's always sad to see great players end their careers, but especially so when they do it early. But he has kept himself in great shape and I always felt that he had another season in him. It's terrific to have him back."
Scholes said: "I've been pretty clear since I stopped playing that I miss it. I'm delighted the manager feels I can still make a contribution to the team and I'm looking forward to playing my part in trying to bring more success to this great club."
Scholes retired at the end of last season, after helping United to win their 19th league title. He has made 676 appearances for United, scoring 150 goals, since making his debut against Port Vale in the League Cup in 1994. He has won 66 caps for England.

Sir Alex Ferguson has received a very special 25th anniversary tribute from his grateful employers at Manchester United - with Old Trafford's biggest stand being renamed in his honour.
The North Stand is now known as the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, after a new sign was unveiled just before kick-off against Sunderland. It's the first time in the 101-year history of Old Trafford that a stand has been named after an individual. In addition, the renowned sculptor Philip Jackson has been commissioned to create a statue of the manager. This will be erected outside the stand's entrance, hopefully in August 2012.
In a club statement, United chief executive David Gill said: "To be at a club of our standing for so long is truly remarkable. In that time, Sir Alex has established himself as the most successful manager in British football history, winning countless trophies and creating numerous sides admired around the world for their flair and ability. Sir Alex's contribution to United has been immense and the magnificent stadium we have here at Old Trafford is a testament to his ability and success.
The Board felt it right to take this unique step, as well as to commission Philip Jackson to create a statue to go alongside his other great pieces here of Sir Matt and the United Trinity. These tributes are made with the grateful thanks of the owners, board, staff, players and fans of Manchester United, for the great pleasure Sir Alex has brought us all over a quarter of a century."
Sir Alex saw his name on the former North Stand for the first time after walking through a guard of honour formed by both teams. Talking on the stadium PA system, he remarked how proud he felt to "work for the greatest football club in the world" and to have managed "some of the greatest footballers we've ever seen in this country."

Not far from the Wallace Monument and a cross-court pass away from a giant Andy Murray photograph (very important information right thur), Ferguson was in Stirling University to receive the latest honour in a football career that began as a 16-year-old striker with Queen's Park in 1957, and as a manager down the road at East Stirlingshire in 1974, three years before Villas-Boas was born (more very important info, ty daily mail).

Michael Owen Extends United Contract
Jun. 1st, 2011 10:19 am![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)

Manchester United striker Michael Owen has signed a new one-year deal at the club.
Owen's previous deal expired at the end of the season, but United have taken up the option to extend it for a further 12 months.
The 31-year-old played a bit-part role in United's title-winning campaign this season, making only 11 Premier League appearances and starting just once.
Owen has always maintained his desire to stay at United and he is delighted to win the contract extension and is already looking forward to next season
"I'm delighted to have agreed a one-year extension to my contract," Owen told the club's official website.
Inspiration
"To play alongside so many great players, under an exceptional manager, and in front of so many incredibly passionate supporters, is a real inspiration.
"I can't wait for next season to start."
Sir Alex Ferguson was happy to keep the former Liverpool man at Old Trafford for another 12 months.
"Michael has proved to be a top footballer. It's unfortunate Michael didn't get more opportunities but the form of Chicharito put everyone in the shade and his partnership with Rooney proved invaluable.
"I am delighted Michael is staying for a further year and we will look to give him more opportunities in the new season."

Manchester United have claimed an awards double with Sir Alex Ferguson and Nemanja Vidic landing the Barclays Manager and Player of the Season honours.
Ferguson has led United to their 12th Premier League title, and 19th English league success overall, plus the Champions League final.
Centre-back Vidic has been the key cog in United's defence and has made more league starts than any other Red Devils player during the campaign.

A Football Association regulatory commission has warned Sir Alex Ferguson as to his future conduct following comments the Manchester United manager made about the referee Howard Webb.
The FA received a huge amount of criticism for raising an improper conduct charge against Ferguson over the positive remarks he made about the official ahead of United's Premier League win over Chelsea earlier this month.
Ferguson is not believed to have offered a significant response to the charge. And on Tuesday he learned he will face no punishment, beyond a gentle reminder not to do it again.
"A regulatory commission has warned Sir Alex Ferguson as to his future conduct," said an FA statement. "Ferguson was charged with improper conduct, relating to his pre-match media comments made about the match official Howard Webb on 6 May 2011.
"The chairman of the commission made the following statement following the hearing: 'This rule was brought in at the start of the 2009-10 season and this was reiterated formally to all clubs again on 21 October 2010. This is a clear breach of the rule and it is the first time such a matter has been placed in front of a commission.
'As a result of this charge the commission were aware of other occasions where pre-match comments were made by other managers. In this case, it was considered to be a minor breach, but a breach nevertheless, and it should be taken as a warning to all managers in the future that any such breach, even positive comments, are likely to result in a charge by the FA.'"
It was expected that Ferguson would not be harshly treated over this latest disciplinary problem, which came just three weeks after he completed a five-match touchline ban for negative comments made about Martin Atkinson, following his performance in United's 2-1 defeat at Chelsea in March.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association for comments about referee Howard Webb. [AGAIN]
The comments in question were made in the build-up to the 2-1 Premier League win over Chelsea on 8 May.
Even though Ferguson spoke positively about Webb, he broke FA rules which state that no manager should speak about a referee prior to a match.
The Old Trafford club's manager has until 1600 BST on 16 May to respond.
Ferguson's side won the match last Sunday against Chelsea 2-1 to move within a point of securing a record 19th title with two games to spare.
But, two days before a game which could have resulted in Chelsea overtaking them at the top-flight summit had the Blues won, Ferguson spoke about Webb at his news conference.
"We are getting the best referee, there is no doubt about that," he said at the time.
"But (getting a bad decision) is definitely our big fear.
"We have the players to do it all right. We just hope it's our turn for a little bit of luck."
Ferguson only recently returned to the dug-out aftyer a five-game ban and £30,000 fine for his criticism's of referee Martin Atkinson following a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea in March.

Srsly, the FA are a joke ... Fergie gets charged if he so much as mentions the word referee nowadays, but if he didn´t talk to the press then the FA would be on him for that too ... he can´t win

As you all know, a hole was left in the wall of Manchester United's Wembley dressing room following their semi-final FA Cup defeat to Manchester City last week. Many theories have been put forward to explain the origin of the hole for which Untied have been forced to pay a £50 fine. This morning, Times newspaper correspondent Giles Smith came up with seven possible scenarios so I though I'd share (they're worth a giggle or two...)
