Frank Lampard given driving ban for speeding in Surrey

England and Chelsea footballer Frank Lampard has been banned for driving at more than 90mph on the A3 in Surrey.

Lampard had admitted speeding in a 50mph zone in his Range Rover at Claygate at a previous hearing.

Staines magistrates were told the footballer, who was not in court, was clocked driving towards London at 91mph in March 2010.

He was banned from driving for 90 days and fined £850. Lampard was also ordered to pay £2,300 costs.

Liverpool reject £40 million bid from Chelsea for striker Fernando Torres

The Spanish international has been linked with a host of clubs over the past 12 months, including Manchester City and Barcelona, but Chelsea have made the first move.

A Liverpool spokesman said last night: "Chelsea have made an offer for Fernando, which has been rejected. The player is not for sale."

Premier League champions Chelsea are believed to have had a £52 million bid for Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero and defender Diego Godin rejected earlier this week, and have now turned their attentions closer to home.

But having met stiff resistance from the Anfield hierarchy, it remains uncertain whether they will improve their offer for Torres, who has shown signs in recent weeks of returning to his best form.

Mic captures Sky presenters' sexist diatribe against female linesman

Sky Sports presenters Andy Gray and Richard Keys were at the centre of a sexism row last night after they questioned whether a female linesman knew the offside rule during a Premier League football match.

The commentators, who apparently believed their microphones were switched off, were recorded making disparaging remarks about Sian Massey, 25, before Liverpool’s Premiership clash with Wolves yesterday. They also criticised Apprentice star and West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady who had yesterday written about sexism in a newspaper column.

Commenting on Ms Massey, Mr Keys said: ‘Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her.’

Mr Gray, a former Scottish international footballer, replied: ‘Can you believe that? A female linesman. Women don’t know the offside rule.’

Mr Keys replied: ‘Course they don’t. I can guarantee you there will be a big one today. Kenny (Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish) will go potty. This isn’t the first time, is it? Didn’t we have one before?’

Later in the exchange, Mr Keys said: ‘The game’s gone mad. Did you hear charming Karren Brady this morning complaining about sexism? Do me a favour, love.’

Ms Brady had said she had ‘experienced sexism at its rankest, lies about my personal life and a level of calculated mischief that is simply appalling’.

Asked about the pundits’ remarks, she said: ‘I think this just sums up everything I said in my column.’

During the game, which Liverpool won 3-0, Ms Massey angered Wolves by refusing to rule Raul Meireles offside before he set up Liverpool’s first goal. The replay showed that she made the correct decision.

When The Mail on Sunday put the transcript to Mr Keys, he said: ‘I have no recollection of that. I have no idea what you are talking about. My recollection is that I wished the young lady all the best.’

When told a recording existed of the conversation, he said: ‘If you have a tape then you don’t need me to talk to you.’

Last night The Mail on Sunday sent a transcript and a copy of the recording to a Sky Sports spokeswoman.

She was not able to confirm or deny the veracity of the clip, which was provided to this newspaper by an anonymous source.

Mr Gray could not be reached last night

I was half sleep when I flipped to this game (yes, I watched a Liverpool game). They showed her and my reaction was "what? wait...is that a woman?!?! YOU GO GIRL!!" I don't know if I had these two assholes as my commentators, but iirc, mine praised her for getting the call right/doing a fantastic job.

THIS IS A POST ABOUT PHILIPPINE FOOTBALL (dealwithit.gif) AND THE UNJUST TREATMENT THAT IS HAPPENING TO THE TEAM.

The Philippines Football Team has been known as one of the weakest teams in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), this is even putting it rather mildly tbh. Anyway, new year, new manager... and things took a shocking turn this year during the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup when the Philippine Team, known as Azkals, finished the group stage unbeaten to move on to the semi-finals. The team also managed to win a 2-0 game against the Suzuki Cup defending champions and powerhouse Vietnam.

The Suzuki Cup semi-finals should be home and away games. However, AFF deemed facilities in the Philippines not fit for the competition (we’ll find out soon who’s really responsible for that final decision), thus it was decided that there will be NO HOME GAME for the Philippines. The two semi-final games will be played in Indonesia, making it TWO home games for the opponent.

So why oh why oh why is this so?

More importantly, what is the PHILIPPINE FOOTBALL FEDERATION DOING? Hmmmmm?

From the twitter account of the amazing James Horncastle (follow him if you don't!)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has apparently been involved in a bust-up with Gooch Onyewu: Milan training session suspended

Gazzetta claims Ibra went in a little too hard on Onyewu who didn't take too kindly to it. They came to blows in front of 30 fans.

Onyewu said to be furious with Ibrahimovic, especially considering his serious injury problems last season

Early reports suggest Onyewu got up and grabbed Ibra by the throat.

Gazzetta: "Teammates quickly tried to separate them, but the two aren't exactly puny + in the end Allegri forced to interrupt training."

It's not the first time Ibra has rubbed his teammates up the wrong way since joining Milan as this clip shows

It’s been 214 days, 5,136 hours, 308,160 minutes or 18,489,600 seconds since I left England and in all honesty diary, I can’t take it. I am trying so hard to make this work but there is nothing but a deep chasm in my heart that is forever Liverpool. I am reading up on Eternal Return and the idea makes my heart heavy with sadness. The cyclic revolution of the universe, with its limited state coinciding with the steady marching on of time means that I will have to endure this depression over and over and over again.

As Nietzsche states, “Now, however long a time may pass, according to the eternal laws governing the combinations of this eternal play of repetition, all configurations which have previously existed on this earth must yet meet, attract, repulse, kiss, and corrupt each other again...”

I cannot cope with this.

It may look, to the passive, unassuming viewer on my life that I am happy. You may look at pictures of me
hugging and cherishing my current teammates and appearing happy and at one with my family on the streets of Madrid. But only you dear diary, know my inner torment. It simply cannot be endured. But yet it must be. Facades must be maintained, and true feelings must be repressed, and instead I must content myself with looking at pictures of my beloved and our team on Daylife and GettyImages and wishing, praying, hoping that I was still there.

Sigh.

A Chinese player could lose the sight in one eye after his team bus was pelted with rocks by opposing fans after a second division match in Chengdu last weekend.

Shenyang Dongjin defender Feng Shaoshun had his left eye cut by glass when the bus windows were shattered by Chengdu Blades fans as the team left the Chengdu Stadium on Sunday. The doctor took two pieces of glass out of Feng's left eye but suspected more shards remained, sina.com said. "It is still hard to say without an operation to check the internal damage of the eyeball... we can only try our best to stop his left eye from going blind," his doctor told the web portal. Feng's former teammate, Guinean Ousmane Bangoura, lost the sight in his right eye after being kicked in the face in a Chinese Super League match in 2006.

Paraguayan footballer Jose Pedroso, who grabbed a referee around the throat and tried to choke him during a weekend match in Chile's second division for Rangers has resigned from the club.

Elias Vistoso, president of the second-division club Rangers, said Monday that Pedroso had left the club following the indicent on Saturday in a second-division match between Rangers and Concepcion. Concepcion won 3-0.

"We spoke with him and he has resigned," Vistoso told the daily El Mercurio. "We know the (league) punishment awaiting him will not be small."

The scene involving defender Pedroso and referee Marcelo Miranda was captured on video and has been posted on the website YouTube.

The incident took place shortly after Miranda allowed Concepcion to take a penalty four times, waving off attempts because of various infractions. Concepcion converted the first, missed the next two and finally converted the fourth in the team's victory.

Pedroso later charged at Miranda after the referee showed him a second yellow card for a violent tackle. As Miranda approached to show the card, Pedroso slipped behind him and grabbed the referee around the neck. After releasing him, he chased after Miranda and had to be wrestled to the ground by teammates.

Pedroso was quoted telling the Chilean newspaper La Tercera that he had no regrets.

"I'm not the least bit sorry," he was quoted saying. "Now I'm going to Paraguay."

Pedroso could also have faced civil penalties although Miranda, the referee, did not file charges.

(NEWSER) – The manager for the captain of Germany's national soccer team has blamed "gay players" for the nation's failure to capture a World Cup title, sparking a firestorm of criticism. Michael Becker, who represents captain Michael Ballack, scoffed at the "bunch of gays" on the World Cup team in an interview with Der Spiegel. Becker attributed the team's more elegant and agile play to their homosexuality, and said that style over German teams' more traditional aggressive approach cost the athletes a place in the World Cup finals.

Becker also said other players were "jealous" of Ballack, who was photographed for Vanity Fair, because they were "mediocre, ugly, untalented, bureaucratic, provincial, unmanly or gay," noted reporter Alexander Osang. A spokesman for another German team blasted Becker's remarks, saying the club has "absolutely no resentment toward homosexuals." German national coach Joachim Löw refused to respond, saying he would "not stoop so low." Germany's World Cup team has been hailed for being the youngest in 76 years and more ethnically diverse than ever, notes the Guardian.

I know some of you are new to football, and are thinking about selecting a team to follow in club football. But before you do, I think its probably wise to know a little about club rivalries, so you don't end up supporting two teams that hate each other.

Because although you can do that, and no one will stop you, its not advisable, unless you have wank-repelling body lotion or something. Because you will get grief. Club football is not as all-encompassing as International football - it isn't usually ok to like several teams, especially not if they play in the same league. People usually like one team per league. Most people only follow one or two leagues. Obviously this is not a hard and fast rule, but I've noticed some butthurt from people who have received adverse reactions for saying they like both Barca and Real Madrid, or Liverpool and Man Utd, and not understanding why this is a problem. Hopefully this post will clear things up.

So....

CLUB RIVALRIES 101

I'm not going to talk about every single club rivalry, instead I'm going to talk about the ones that will prob affect people in this comm, because I don't think we're going to have many Barcelona/Espanyol joint supporters for example. So if you have one that isn't featured, feel free to post it in the comments and I'll link to it when I see it :)  I also know nothing about the Bundesliga, so if anyone would like to do their rivalries, I would be eternally grateful.

Son Also Rises

He's the coach's son. There, we said it. But there's much more to Michael Bradley than that. Start with his world-class game

This story appears in the April 19 issue of ESPN The Magazine.

It's another heated U.S.-Mexico match -- a World Cup qualifier in Columbus, in February 2009, before a typically crazed crowd -- and as usual, there's a flash point. U.S. keeper Tim Howard rises to grab a ball that floats in front of the six-yard box, and as he does he's kicked in the leg by Mexico's Rafael Marquez -- a flagrant red card. In a flash, American midfielder Michael Bradley has sprinted to the fallen Marquez to loom over him. Just as suddenly, U.S. captain Carlos Bocanegra arrives to give his younger teammate a quick, hard shove. He does this reflexively, as if he's done it before. Which he has. When Michael Bradley is on the field, this kind of thing happens. "Probably a hundred times a game," says Bradley. "I'll want to have a word with the ref, or whoever, and then ... " And then Bocanegra or Howard or Landon Donovan or some combination of Yanks has to protect Bradley from his passion. They will intercede between their teammate and his new best enemy and issue a simple command: "Michael, enough!"

Unfortunately, "enough" isn't a word Bradley understands. About matters of soccer, he is never satisfied. In his short career, the 22-year-old has already pushed the boundaries of what's possible for a U.S. field player. At 17, less than two years after becoming one of the youngest draftees in the history of MLS, Bradley played in 33 games for the MetroStars and scored the goal that clinched the playoffs. At 20, two years after becoming the youngest MLS player sold to Europe, he scored 21 goals for Heerenveen of the Dutch league, most ever by a Yank in a European first division. Now he anchors the midfield for Germany's Borussia Mönchengladbach, having helped the club successfully fend off relegation in the Bundesliga a year ago.

A Premier League footballer broke a woman's nose with a single punch after saying, "Don't you know who I am? I am a millionaire", a jury has been told.

Wigan Athletic striker Marlon King, 29, also "sexually touched" the woman, 20, London's Southwark Crown Court heard.

The attack in a Soho bar after she had rejected his advances was a piece of "gratuitous" violence, jurors heard.

Mr King, a married father-of-three, denies sexual assault by touching and causing actual bodily harm.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was injured by Mr King at the Soho Revue Bar in December, the court was told.

On the night of the incident, she had been with a group of "sporty type" friends.

Another footballer and sports journalist were also there, but Mr King was not part of the group.

Describing the alleged touching by the accused, Roger Daniells-Smith, prosecuting, said: "They were complete strangers to each other.

"It was not an accidental brushing or innocent contact that occasionally happens in crowded bars. This was deliberate and sexual."

The woman responded by saying: "Don't do that, it's not nice. Don't touch me."

Why Massimo Bussaca is the hottest ref
OF ALL TIME

------------------------------------------ From FourFourTwo ------------------------------------------

Swiss referee Massimo Busacca has apologised for sticking his finger up at fans who insulted him during a Swiss Cup match between third division FC Baden and first division Young Boys on Saturday.

"I let myself get provoked by the verbal insults of the fans and was dragged down to making an unsporting gesture," said Busacca in a statement on the Swiss Football Federation website.

Busacca, 40, who refereed last season's Champions League final between Barcelona and Manchester United, has been an international referee for 10 years and officiated at the last World Cup.

1) How to laugh at jokes and 2) How to use profanity!
