Euros

Round up of scores because I don't have pictures for all the matches, savvy?
Portugal 2- 0 Armenia

This is the Portuguese kit?

Armenia? Why?

“The problem is that nobody in the Portugal NT is fast enough or precise enough to set up the only one who is able to score - Cristiano Ronaldo. Even the best player in the world can’t do everything on his own, though he did in many matches.” -Commentator

Scotland 1 - 1 ROI

I came into this match 40 minutes in, just in time to see Scotland score

Someone made the comment about England having to hide their up and comers and their kids because the Irish was coming. I choked on my soup. The one meal I had for fast day, and people had to muck it up

Delaney isn't well liked by most of the Irish football supporters I know

The Italian referee was not taking any guff from anyone. I thought he had the game in hand

Gibraltar 0 -7 Germany

Um... well. At least they have something in common with Brazil? No? I'll get my coat

Um... well. Gibraltar got to exchange their shirts with the lads, and can flog them on ebay for some dosh?

Demark 2- 0 Serbia

I... Serbia? I know I have said this before, but the expansion to 24 teams in the Euros is a nonsense.

That tackle!

Albania 1 -0 France

You could knock me over with a feather with that score. Just what?

Boy Lloris, it's like playing for Spurs again, eh?

Giroud got a red card, I think, and France down to 10 men

Pogba came on at half time, but couldn't do anything. Hmmm...

Women's World Cup

Matches on this day, June 13, 2015

Colombia-France

Man, listen... what kind of deliberate handball is this? How wasn't it called? I understand if the referee didn't see it, but ins't that what the linesmen are for?

Nawl Colombia, this is tragic. I reject this

Nice jerseys, ngl, but still judging you. *Judges*

Brazil 1 - 0 Spain

Vero Boqueta and Marta THA GAWD Viera

So. There seems to be a frission of discontent re: the Brazilians. It seems that they have five stars on their crest, yeah ? But it's the five stars representing the men's team, not the women's! The women want to stand on their own, and wear the stars that they earn. I get it, ngl. They might share the canary yellow of the selection, but they want to earn their own badges. I agree

Until then, I'm building my shrine to Marta. She's the real deal, ya'll. Fluid as water, feints filled with guile and cunning, and her reading of the game is some next level.

Just... look at God

Dat flow. How she's two steps beyond her rival. Just... BAE!

Mexico 0 - 2 England

England finally notched a win. *Whew* funding secured

Mexico had England on the back foot in the first half, England seemingly had no answers. Don't know what Samson said in the fifteen minute break (probably reminded them that unfairly, if we don't get a good result, funding for the woman's game will be thrown into doubt - even though the men's team are RUBBISH, and BBC won't cover the WWC again), but they got a result

But the lionesses do have support over here. In a match between them and the three lions, I agree with this letter

Aluko didn't get much service from England, but she held up the ball, and ground Mexico to a stand still in the first half

Copa America

I love everything this logo chooses to be.
Argentina 2- 2 Paraguay

Summary of match result

OTP of OTPs

I can't believe Messi is captain of Argentina when they have Masch

This guy should be the argentine captain. Anyway, I am digging the Adidas treatment to this. Love the kits

Seriously, I approve of these kits. I'd rock one - and I'm not Argentine

DiMaria is supposedly linked to Bayern Munich? Qué?

I know nothing of Paraguay and where they are on the footballing scene. We know that Chile is talented, Colombia is brimming with talent and belief, Argentina and Brazil are coming for our edges, but what do we know about Paraguay- really? The player's name is Nelson Valdez

Uruguay 1- 0 Jamaica

Jamaica got a wild card, and got invited to the competition because they were football Champions of the Caribbean? Someone hit me with a clue by four

The gossip with Uruguay is that people are a bit frustrated with the coach. Suárez seemed to have papered over his mistakes (Rodgers can relate), and el maestro doesn't believe in having new blood, even though Uruguay is brimming with talent

I watched the match and - Jamaica did better than expected. People expected them to show up and make up numbers, but half of the team seem to ply their trade in the second division of English football, and their coach (a German) seems to be a welcome change after Whitmore's beleaguered reign at the NT level (he was asked to resign, as a measure of respect since he was one of the original Reggae Boyz in 1998). Uruguay won buy 1, but they can build on that

I've never liked any of Jamaica's kits. The yellow is atrocious

The World According to Cavani. This will run and run

OP: done! Cheers, jeers, corrections and commentary pushback you know the drill! I will be out and about today (the sun's flirting with me, I'll be a dudebro and act as if it's enough to be getting my dalliance on). Off to go walking, will come back and side eye England against Slovenia. Equal opportunity side eyer, me. Tomorrow will catch up on gossip like Real Madrid supposedly flogging Casillas in order to get De Gea. More time! If I've missed any tags re: national teams, can someone fill them in for me? Cheers!

Actually, Masche was the captain of Argentina during Maradona's time. Sabella came along and gave Messi the captaincy instead. Regardless of who's wearing the armband now, people say that Masche is the true leader in the dressing room, the motivator, the glue that sticks the team together and Messi is the captain only in name.

Nelson Valdez was a former BvB player! Their other goalscorer, Barrios, also was a BvB player :')

So happy for the England girls! I really hope they go far this WWC. I agree about Brazil's 5 stars. None of the other countries have the men's stars on the badges.

I'm not sure who from France got the red card but it wasn't Giroud. He got subbed off at half-time for Nabil.

I can't find anything about a red card in Albania-France.
Well there are just as many controversies in the women's game than the men's game. But that handball should have been a pen.
France created a bunch of chances but couldn't convert. Women will never really be able to beat men at football, they are not fast or strong enough but I don't think that that's a problem. For me the tactics on the pitch look the same.

Oops Argentina. That's not an ideal start. This is supposed to be the tournament where Messi finally leads the senior side to a triumph, I think?

Line-up for the semis of the U20 WC: Senegal beat Uzbekistan 1-0, Mali, Brazil and Serbia all went through on penalties.

I didn't see anything about a red card either.

Giroud is already getting criticism in the newspaper for why France lost... he played half the game. And wasn't he injured in the last game? I can't believe they let him play at all.

Oops Argentina. That's not an ideal start. This is supposed to be the tournament where Messi finally leads the senior side to a triumph, I think?

womp womp. Now he's going to get criticized for putting more into Barca than into Argentina NT (as usual). But I'm cheering for Chile anyway. Not only because Alexis, but home country + never won Copa America before. They'd all be so happy.

lol, i think there'd be blood if they didn't get at least 3 goals against Gibraltar. I remember the German home crowd was unhappy they scored only 3 or 4 against them last year

Looks like it's farewell, Weidenfeller. Funny how Roman will be replaced by Roman.

Nice!

Weidenfeller had a good match last night though, but it was against mostly amateurs. Still, that's his last season anyway? Farewell indeed.

Langerak though, what's he going to do... hmh

Hmmm, he'd do well in a team like Stuttgart or Bremen but they have young goalies too.

I hope he goes to another team in one of the big leagues. I don't think I can see him play for another BuLi team.

peeps there are clueless tho lol

that said, it would make sense for all the parties involved if mitch were the one to leave. this way he gets his chance to actually play and roman gets a proper farewell next year. if the rumors about fiorentina wanting roman are true tho, i think it would be silly of him to not consider it. he would get to play in a good league and he would get to live in florence , which is more than a plus lol.

Plus, playing in Serie A would relieve him of some of the pressure he faces playing in the same league as the great Manuel Neuer.

i don't think neuer's shadow is much of a problem, really, because he would be the best anywhere he went, it's a lost cause. the issue is that the buli is srsly packed with great/amazing keepers, so roman has to compete not only with neuer, but also with sommer, leno, benaglio, bürki, horn, zieler, trapp etc. it's ridic.

i srsly don't know how epl clubs haven't started raiding buli clubs for gks. all this talk of united going after lloris since ddg is on his way out, with the money levy is gonna charge them they could buy leno, bürki and horn and still have money left for gündogan lol.

i think that's true for players that already have nt credentials and are already playing for top buli clubs, but i srsly doubt zieler, trapp or timo horn would say no to united or even liverpool.

i mean, i just remembered that zieler used to play for united when he was a bb but it didn't end all that well lol.

Maybe Tuchel doesn't rate him.

Bürki was considered one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga this season, even though his club got relegated (that made for an easy/ fairly cheap move for him as well tbh)

Mitch hasn't been first choice for a club or his country either, so he's not had much practice and he hasn't been outstanding when he's played, though he hasn't been terrible either

From: [identity profile] the4thjuliek.livejournal.com
Mitch is very good, but like [livejournal.com profile] aquaecolore said, he hasn't had much playing time. And I think the club wouldn't want to drop Weidenfeller especially since he's a club legend. And Mitch is too good to ride the bench so the best solution for him is to go out on loan or move away completely :'(

None other than the Littlest Lord Stark missed the penalty and the German U-20 team lost last night. Gah!

Honestly? Gibraltar were very good, considering what they had to work with. They could have scored in the first half, they were very brave, because they didn't just defend well, but also actually attacked. They were only 1-0 down at halftime.

Once Germany had remembered they were not in fact on holiday yet and scored a few in the second half, Gibraltar got tired and couldn't keep up, which is understandable in people who play in their free time. But if one looks at the first part of the game, it was by far not the smackdown the result makes it look. If you look at discipline, morale, and concentration, they were better than Brazil were that day.

What you said. I didn't see the first half, but obviously Gibraltar were doing fairly well at that point. They tried the best they could once Germany finally got going, and I was impressed by the effort Gibraltar put in.

Scotland's kit still amazes me. I had to pause & look carefully before I realized which team it was.

Delaney isn't well liked by most of the Irish football supporters I know Judging by that pic, I'm thinking Delaney dngaf about other people's opinions. He's got his; y'all will just have to like it.

I'm so glad I was here for the 2nd half of the Germany game. Sorry Gibraltar, I'm sure it was way less fun for you! Schuerrle, Gundogan, and Kruse deserved their goal glut.

Expansion to 24, 32, 64! teams is great, surely you can see it. From the perspective of FIFA, big business, advertisers, etc. that is.

Albania?! France?! Holy moly. What happened? O.O Albania will surely declare a national holiday or something. :p

Colombian ladies: Maradona would be proud of that handball! Also, agreed re Masch as captain for Argentina. But you can't argue with the power of D10S, so....

That Cavani map! "Donde nos pagan" OMFG I can't stop laughing! XD XD

Oh, Cris. People say there's no such thing as too much of a good thing, but when you are THAT good that no one else on the Portuguese team can come with 100 miles of you then that is something of a burden. Say what you like about the guy, but without him Portugal would be up shit's creek without a paddle. He's dragged them, kicking and screaming, through qualifiers, into tournaments, but is always outnumbered in the end. One guy can only do so much.

Also, I do love it when my pretty running boys provide me with ample gif-y moments to use in future match spams ...

I predict am gonna be using this one a lot, since it so perfectly captures about 60% of my solo football commentary.
