[personal profile] koyuki posting in [community profile] ontd_football
So this is a couple of weeks old at this point, but I tracked back and I don't think we discussed it, save FFT's Lahm piece. I'm mostly posting it because there's also a host of interesting analytical pieces about people's overall careers/legacies rather than just knee-jerk reactions from each game.

Plus they provided the infographics so [livejournal.com profile] mrsvixen doesn't have to make them :P

Lmao, what a list. At least they had the good sense to put Lahmpoleon at #2 over Hobbit Prince. But apart from that, what a fail. Diego Costa above my precious troll?

Iniesta, Cesc and Yaya in the top 20!

Gareth freaking Bale at #5! I hate seeing his name in these lists; he's very good, we get it, but he's definitely not one of the ten best footballers in the world. Typical British hype.

Horse-Face at #28. SMH.

Bale is no 5? Naaaahhhhhhh. I'd have put Courtois there under Neuer, but I love me some Courtois.

Bale at no 5 though?

LOL, I'm not having a go at you, and I do like FFT's commentary whenever I get to read it, but Bale?! I can agree with everyone else but Bale.

Bale is good, scored important goals but he's not even Real's second best player.
I simply don't understand how he gets this high in these lists!

The problem with these lists is that they both select on players who had a great year (especially second half of the year) and players who were mostly great in the past. Some long-term injured players are in the list while others are not. Take Javi Martinez he played for 3 months and a half same goes for Falcao. Were those 3 months good enough to be in the list? I'm not sure.
And Iniesta, at his best, he's brilliant but this year wasn't all that.

There are actually some more individual tags for the players in the articles if you want me to add some of them, [livejournal.com profile] chrysa. And for the ones that don't have tags....like, say, Modric, there are the club tags. I feel like I have been clued into some of the ~secrets of the tags here, since I have found Yaya Touré's tag! XD (It's babooshka-ya-ya touré (http://ontd-football.livejournal.com/tag/babooshka-ya-ya%20tour%C3%A9), if you ever need to use it.)

That picture of Zlatan is pretty hilarious - it's like he's ready to go eat some plankton, but #6 seems pretty awfully high for him.
