Summary: WC Qualification in Europe

A tale of the tape

England 2-0 Lithuania

How is Jermain Defoe so wee? Anyway, this game took place after the tragedy at Westminister. This was the minute's silence that the English do well

I'm not going to spend too much time on this game, but basically, Southgate brought back Jermaine Defoe from the wilderness into the national side. The boy in front of Defoe is Bradley Lowrey, a five-year-old with terminal cancer. Defoe is his favourite player and they seem to have a bond. Joe Hart was named captain of the match, but he allowed Defoe to lead the country out

The game was so-so. Lithuania came to gum up the works, I wasn't mad. Lallana did well

What was encouraging about this England side was that Southgate actually picked players based on form, not team. So to see players from Sunderland, Burnley, Middlesborough on the NT was nice

Defoe seemed to be a popular guy on the team. Southgate said some interesting things (telling England to get off the island in the week that Theresa May triggers Brexit is especially ironic. But eh)

Luxemberg 1- 3 France

Luxemberg did better than I thought, tbh

"I know when that hotline bling..."

Back of the net!

Azerbaijan 1- 4 Germany

How short is no 18? How ill does that no. 9 look?

Why is Özil there on the NT when he's supposedly ill?

Schurle got a brace. Mueller finished up

No, seriously, what's with him?

Northern Ireland 2- 0 Norway

I expected Norway to put up more of a fight, tbh

But it's nice seeing the home nations doing well. Hope your reunfication goes well, NI. Run away, run away from Brexit

Scotland 1- 0 Slovenia

Chris Martin scored the only goal in the game! The Scots head coach has been under pressure, and Scotland had to win. I have things to say about Chris Martin, but you know what? I'mma let it cook

I really thought Slovenia would have tied. They are a strong team in this group

OP: Done! Cheers, jeers, etc., you know the drill! Nice to be back in my bed, with working internet!

I've missed so much football.

BTW, #9 of Germany aka Shirley looks like that because he has no eyebrows. #18 of Germany is Kimchi. He's around 5'9 but looks tiny because he's in a row with Mario Gomez, Mats and Leno who are all at least 6'1.

Bug Eyes always gets called up (he's a fave of Jogi's, for good reason) but I guess he was too sick to play.

Oh dear! I was wondering what happened to you. Hope your partner gets well quickly. I fell sick after eating a dodgy waffle once and now I can't even look at a waffle anymore.

Fans in Europe eat pies at halftime, right? XD

I did once and ended up standing in line during halftime and the first 5-10 minutes of the second half just to get nachos. DX

In Germany, we eat sausages. Pies are not much of a thing at all here - discounting some apple cakes that I guess are vaguely pie-like, I don't think I've eaten a pie in my life.

Hah, try taking their beer away and see what happens!

There was quite a hubbub before the 2006 World Cup because FIFA thought it would be a reasonable policy to allow only Budweiser to be sold in and around the stadium. I guess if there was anything that could have made German fans boycott the matches in the stadium, that would have done it.

In the end there was a compromise, allowing Bitburger to be sold as well. In return they allowed Budweiser to be advertised as "Bud", which they normally cannot do because it's "too phonetically similar" to "Bit".
