Very early in Napoli's match against Lazio at the San Paolo, Miroslav Klose scored off a corner kick to put Lazio up 1-0. While the Lazio players began to celebrate, Napoli protested the goal, saying that Klose scored with his hand, which he did. Klose then admitted his offense to the referee, who disallowed the goal, and the Napoli players showed their appreciation for Klose honesty by patting him on the back.
Napoli went on the beat Lazio 3-0, but it was the 34-year-old German legend who earned the lion's share of respect on the day. And making the incident even more enjoyable is the fact that he admitted his handball goal in the stadium that used to be the home of Maradona, the unrepentant perpetrator of the Hand of God goal.

Date: 2012-09-27 12:53 am (UTC)THE ONLY THING NOT AWESOME ABOUT KLOSE IS THAT HE IS NOT PLAYING 24/7 EVERYWHERE

Date: 2012-09-27 01:14 am (UTC)I WANT HIM TO GO BACK TO BAYERN BECAUSE THEN I CAN ACTUALLY SEE HIM PLAYING. I watch Lazio when I can, but I'm not dedicated like Real/Bayern and it makes me sad :(

Word on the street was that Spurs was really sniffing around trying to get him but he felt like he needed to honor his full contract to Lazio. I think his days of Bayern are over (esp. since it seems like Bayern has more than enough strikers nowadays) but I wouldn't mind him coming to EPL. Just as long as he is happy and getting playtime, because I think that's all he is looking for.
Also he got to meet the Pope.
I imagine that's very important to him.
eta: I should add - THAT is why I still think he is Germany's best and strongest striker and why even though I have total respect for Gomez for Bayern Munich, Klose is just so, so much a better fit for the NT. He can switch between striker, midfielder, and even defender if and when it is demanded of him just as long as the team benefits. Which is also the reason why having two strikers just doesn't work well - when another striker is on the field Klose tends to be the supporter because he is uber-teamwork-y

Date: 2012-09-27 02:18 am (UTC)which is unlikely to happen while Klose is still on the NT T___________________THmm, idk how I'd feel about him going to Spurs because... well, let's just say I feel he's worthy of more? Nothing against Spurs, but he's Miroslav Klose. If he goes to the EPL, I vote for Arsenal because that's my team and POLISH BROS. What is there not to love about that? I'd also probably kind of make dying whale noises hearing him learning English.
YES. THAT. ALL OF THAT. I love Mario to pieces, I really do. But he just doesn't have the same diversity as Klose. He's a striker, and he plays his position well, and I love him. He is Goalmez. But there's no denying that Germany truly benefits from Klose's ability to play in virtually any position that's needed, and he can cover so much more distance with the ball. And just... I really miss the front formation from South Africa because jesus, it was brilliant. I know Thomas never quite regained his amazingness for the NT after, but we still have Klose and Lukas and Ozil and I just ghygnhg. I have so many Germany feels, I apologise.

Date: 2012-09-27 02:27 am (UTC)Arsenal wouldn't be bad - I think he'd definitely be an asset for when Arsenal falls back into the "walk it in" mindset and yes, he and Podolski are already fine-tuned to one another. But Arsenal also has a focus on young players and I can't see Wenger bringing in someone he couldn't "develop" unless they're in another desperate situation a la RVP leaving.
ngh. Don't even get me started even last year was just uh-mazing really and it was all thrown away once it really mattered in favor of "experimentation" and bringing in the new bbs. And I am all for bringing in new bbs but not during the major tournament I finally get the "miserables" part of the comm.

Date: 2012-09-27 02:53 am (UTC)sighs... Arsenal are so inspiring to watch with their attack, but then they get scared whenever they're near the box and they just want to play pinball or something, I don't even know. So much headdesk watching them fail to take a shot
except poor Lukas who consistently seems to believe the net is 20 feet high. So yes, bringing in a player like Klose would be amazing because he doesn't mess around, and I think the general amazing pace Arsenal keeps in their matches would work well with how he's all over the field.I don't even remember the players we had on the pitch v. Italy, but I remember I was very uneasy about it before the match :| Jogi's risk-taking usually begins with dread for me, and ends with "keep calm and trust Jogi Loew", but... let's not go into my still-healing wounds from June T_T

Date: 2012-09-27 01:28 am (UTC)I LOVE THIS MAN SO FUCKING MUCH.
THERE - THAT'S BETTER.
And I will legit cry for two weeks like a teenager getting over her first affair the day he retires from Germany and/or professional football. I swear to God - bringing in him, Neuville and Ballack was the first step to making Germany likable again after our shit decade in the '80s. Bloody revolution. The current kids are just carrying on from him an Oliver, in particular. I have loved him since that stupid header (why didn't he kick the ball, I'll never understand) that won us a game against I can't even remember who in like the final 5 minutes or whatever. I remember it was raining and he was so cute and young and headed the ball when he should have kicked it. And I loved him from that moment.
*sobs uncontrollably at this man's perfection*
I recommend everyone read the following post - it comes with a warning for the level of awesome:
