MEXICO striker Antonio de Nigris has died of a suspected heart attack aged 31.
De Negris, who signed for Greek side Larissa in August, was rushed to hospital in the early hours of Monday morning but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A club statement said: "The Larissa family mourns from today the tragic loss of Antonio De Nigris.
"It is with deep sorrow that the administration, technical leadership, players and executives of the club would like to express their condolences to his family, particularly his spouse Sonia and five-year-old daughter Miranda.
"An autopsy will be held at the General Academic Hospital in Larissa to determine the precise reasons of his death."
De Nigris represented Mexico 16 times including at the 2001 Copa America.

Date: 2009-11-16 11:17 am (UTC)The team saw him the previous day and then the next, they all received calls about the news.
Fifa should try to do something about it.
It's hard to prevent such things, but I'm sure the probability can be reduced? idk..

Date: 2009-11-17 01:07 am (UTC)It kinda pisses me off though. He knew... and I don't know man, why did he keep playing? how the fuck did his clubS allow him to keep playing?
FIFA should ban a bunch of people and do something about these things. The boys will always want to play, because those heart conditions don't give you any problems... they'll just kill you in a sec one day. If a club detects a heart condition in one of their players they should report it to FIFA and have them deal with it, not leave it up to the player to decide... like it happened with Tano, he felt fine and thought nothing would happen and well... u_u.
Anyway, yeah RIP Tano DeNigris.
