In the current political climate I wouldn't be surprised if more internationals opt out of the Turkish league. Got a uni friend currently holidaying in Turkey. She's Turkish and visits her homeland at least twice a year and originally intended to stay there till September 3rd but at the moment she's seriously considering cutting her vacation short and coming home early because of what's going on over there. First time in her life she says she feels really unsafe in Turkey. She's devotedly anti-Erdogan but called me up during the coup and didn't want the military to take power because while they are secular they are also VERY nationalistic/fascistic. Bad times.

So if she, despite her lifelong intense love for her ancestral homeland, is currently feeling so unsettled to be there, I can imagine why players like Gomez, who do not have that connection, do not want to return. I say cut ties and run, Mario!
