Paul Ince talking out of his arse.

Former England captain Paul Ince has condemned
Premier League footballers who wear snoods, baseball caps turned sideways, headphones - and tights.

"Back in my time, and I sound old now, it was black and white boots and that was it," the Notts County boss told Midlands Late Kick Off.

"Now you've got snoods, people wearing headphones when they are doing interviews, which I find disrespectful, pink boots, green boots, you name it they've got it, tights - they'll be wearing skirts next.

"You try to bring your kids up the right way and I think somewhere down the line managers have got to come together and say: 'Listen if you are doing interviews, you don't wear headphones, no hats, no silly stuff like that'. I don't think it's the way football should be played. We should all, as a managers' union, come together and stop all this. It's getting ridiculous I'm afraid.

"I'm sick and tired of seeing players, even when it's mild weather, wearing tights and these things [snoods] around their necks. It's not right.

"You see players coming off the buses with earphones around their ears. What ever happened to the art of conversation? You go into the changing room and they've all got their headphones on listening to their own bit of music. When I was at Inter Milan we used to have dinner together and talk together for two to three hours getting to know one another."

Ince, now 43, played for West Ham, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Wolves, Swindon and Macclesfield, where he was player-manager.

He has also managed MK Dons twice, Blackburn and now Notts County.

Seriously, football's been turned on its head because of this, it's a travesty, FIFA should stop worrying about other shit and get to it.

You go into the changing room and they've all got their headphones on listening to their own bit of music.

Did it ever occur to you that they might have been ignoring you, jw

With all the racism, sexism, homophobia, violence and all sorts of unnecessary abuse he's worried about players wearing green boots?

I can see what he means with the "headphones on during interviews" bit but the rest...of all things to fret about eh Paul Ince?

We should all, as a managers' union, come together and stop all this. It's getting ridiculous I'm afraid. Something is getting ridiculous at least, I think we can all agree on that.

[identity profile] thatirishlad.livejournal.com 2011-02-28 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You try to bring your kids up the right way and I think somewhere down the line managers have got to come together and say: 'Listen if you are doing interviews, you don't wear headphones

that doesn't make any sense :|

[identity profile] melj1213.livejournal.com 2011-02-28 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
What part? It makes sense to me. He's basically saying that managers try to instil the right kinds of behaviour in their players but some still don't know how to behave properly and managers should do something about it so they're all on the same page and using common sense.

[identity profile] life-valencia2.livejournal.com 2011-02-28 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Let the man be nostalgic, most of "old" players miss their days and how the football was played or how the players behave and blah blah blah. It´s no big deal.

Meh some of it's over the top but some of it he does have a point about - esp headphones - if you're talking to someone it's rude to keep your headphones on.

Also while it's relevent ... it's all personal choice and everything but since when did players need 20 billion layers when it's not even cold outside? It's a mild day and they're running around they shouldn't need under shirts, thermals, shirts, jackets, tights, shirts, long socks, snoods, gloves, scarves and whatever else they're choosing to wear to keep warm. I can understand all the layers in the middle of winter but other than that how do they not overheat?

[identity profile] climbingeverest.livejournal.com 2011-02-28 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
i know--i'm in minnesota and upper michigan for most of the winter where it's usually below 20 degrees. usually way below 20 degrees. and it'll be 40-50 degrees in spain and they're wearing more than i would to go running. i don't understand.

The part about wearing headphones during interviews being disrespectful, that I can get. At least that's a legitimate reason to oppose the clothing choices someone makes . . . . but the others, what?

[identity profile] bohjen.livejournal.com 2011-02-28 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
ewwww pink boots!! they are so disrespectful!!!11! *face palm*

i think wearing snoods is strange when it isn't cold but otherwise who gives a shit what anyone wants to wear?

[identity profile] problematique.livejournal.com 2011-02-28 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
just gonna post here that my russian (footie) goalie is not playing today and i miss him and it's weird to not see him as the captain for cska and these bitches better look like winning this cup match

AND EVERYONE HAS A SNOOD ON BTW

[identity profile] shadow-sea.livejournal.com 2011-02-28 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with him hahaha.

Not because it's not "manly" behaviour, but they're just unnecessary and annoying. If you're cold run around a bit more. Goalkeepers are the exception to the rule obvs but even some of them take it too far with those vile leggings.

And "snood" is a stupid fucking word.

Side-eyeing him for the "they'll be wearing skirts next" bit tho.

Oh, fuck off. And I say this as a person who was a fan of Ince when he played for Wolves.
Why do football players have to play into this pathetic masculinity culture all sport is. I understand his point about headphones in interviews, but in the changing room then they should be able to do what they want. And is he really making a thing of boot colour?

[identity profile] melj1213.livejournal.com 2011-02-28 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing about the dressing room I would guess is him saying that considering they're supposed to go out and play as a team and work together as one unit the fact they're all locked away in their own iPod encased bubbles means there's not the same kind of team unity as there was back in the day.
